OUR VISION

Intersections between the Physical and the Imaginary

Liminal Space Collective is a vibrant hub for the arts that creates unique and immersive experiences for all ages and backgrounds. Our collective is dedicated to uplifting the community through art, diversity, collaboration, and learning. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the individual and collective, with our shared studios and coworking spaces, to our disco art parties with interactive installations. We strive to provide a supportive environment that encourages creativity and connection. We also offer teaching and learning opportunities, workshops, and host events that bring together the local art and music scene. We are passionate about creating our own “third place” where people can come together, learn, and create. Exploring our experiences in between ‘what was’ and ‘what is next’,

we embrace the qualities of ambiguity, disorientation, and the magic that can be found in the middle of time. Anyone and anything can easily find themselves deeply immersed in a Liminal Space.

OUR STORY

Liminal Space started as a small event at 11th Hour Coffee in downtown Santa Cruz, with a small group of people coming together to share their love of ambient music. But as more and more people began to join and contribute their art, our group quickly outgrew the small space. With the help of the Circle of Friends, we took over the Circle Church and transformed it into what has been described as a "mini Meow Wolf" with several rooms and nooks filled with art installations, giant murals covering the walls inside and out, and a burning sense of curiosity and inspiration.

Our first event at the space, "Northern Lights", sold out the venue with over 800 tickets sold. We had vendors, musicians, artists, and workshops. We use every building as a collaborative art and work space before and after events, giving people of all ages and backgrounds a unique place to express their creativity. Since then, we have held several more successful community events, but unfortunately the Circle Church is now facing demolition and we are in search of a new, permanent place to call home.

OUR FUTURE

The future of our project is bright and ambitious. We envision a permanent physical location where we can provide our members and visitors with an accessible space for education, community, recreation and fun. We plan to offer monthly memberships with workshops, art studios, a fully staffed event venue and more. We also hope to offer youth outreach and after-school programs, along with daily walk-through art exhibits encouraging tourism and bringing something special to Santa Cruz. Together, these (and more) offerings create a sustainable business model, providing a legendary space that we hope to expand to more cities.

We have a strong vision for our art collective and are committed to taking it to the next level. We have a talented team of creative and driven individuals who are passionate about creating meaningful, powerful works of art. To make this vision a reality, we need your help. We are always looking for funding, volunteer work, and more from our community. If you are interested in learning more about how you can help or get involved, please click the link below.

The only thing we are missing- is YOU!
